FREDERICKSBURG — The Wimberley High School girls soccer team's (20-1-2 overall; 8-0-2 in district) defense and goalkeepers helped the team advance to the 4A Division II Area round of playoffs. Senior Sydney Laney and Chole Row combined for another shutout, the 16th this season, against Lago Vista High School (18-6 overall; 14-4 in district) March 20 in Fredericksburg.
Lillian Sandoval, who has 38 goals on the season, scored three goals, Haley Lopez, 11 goals on the season, scored a goal and sophomore Dylan Watson, 18 goals on the season, scored a goal. Jordin Donaldson was credited with two assists, while Gwyneth Lerma, Abby Durkin and Sandoval each had an assist. Wimberley has outscored all opponents 113-9 this season. At press time March 25, Wimberley will face Pleasanton High School (13-6-2) in the 4A Divison II Area round of playoffs on March 25. A win will match the Lady Texans against Rockport Fulton High School or Jubilee Brownsville High School in the Regional Semi-Finals March 27 or 29, at a time and place to be determined.
