WIMBERLEY — Wimberley Lady Texan Charlotte Woodward pitched the entire game one of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 4A D2 Area Championship Thursday, May 1, where the softball team came out with a 7-5 win against the Cuero High School Gobblers.
Woodward pitched a great game and was supported by several great defensive plays and clutch hitting. In the top of the seventh inning, the score was Texans 7, Gobblers 3 and, while the Gobblers rallied for two runs, they fell short and left the Texans to clinch a 7-5 win.
Then, on Friday, May 2, the Texans traveled to Cuero High School for game two. The Texans scored two runs in the first inning and led the entire game.
In the top of the fifth inning, the score was Texans 6, Gobblers 0 and in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Gobblers rallied and scored three runs — one in the sixth inning and four in the next.
Again, the Gobblers rallied, but fell short with the final score, Texans 9, Gobblers 8.
The Texans will next face the Zapata High School Hawks, who finished district play with a record of 3-5 and won their last series with Rockport-Fulton High School, at 7 p.m. Friday, May 9, at Somerset High School.
