SAN ANTONIO — After only being able to score two runs in the top of the seventh inning, the season for the Wimberley High School Lady Texans softball team ended last week.
On Friday, May 9, the team traveled to Somerset High School to play the Zapata High School Hawks for a one-game winner take all for the University Interscholastic League 4A D2 Regional Finals.
The Texans scored first with two runs in the second inning and one run in the third inning. It was a close game for four innings and at the start of the sixth inning, the score was tied, Texans 3, Hawks 3. The Hawks played tough defense in the sixth inning and the Texans were unable to score. The Hawks rallied with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, after a few critical errors made by the Texans.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Texans had rallied, but they were only able to score two runs. The Texans fell short and the Hawks held on and won the UIL 4A D2 regional semifinal game with the final score of Texans 5, Hawks 7.
In the game, the Texans had six hits and five errors; Reagan Kenley and Grace Strobel had two hits each, while Emma Lewis and Emorie Gahan had one hit each.
The Texans finished the season with a record of 15-19 and third place in district play. The young team with several starters will be returning next season.
