After winning a best-of-three game series against Laredo Alexander High School in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A D2 Region IV Semifinals last week, the Dripping Springs High School baseball team is advancing to the finals. On Thursday, May 15, the Tigers won the first game 2-0, behind the pitching of Cooper Rummel and Blake Cox. The Tigers returned Friday for game two and got another impressive pitching outing by Taylor Tracey, including a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning. The Tigers won the second game 5-0.
After the game, Tiger head coach Chris Payne said the players are all currently playing at a high level and they all believe in each other. Payne went on to say that, in game one, Rummel and Cox both pitched a great game and Tracey also had a great game.
On Thursday, May 22, the Tigers will travel to Calallen and play the best of three games with the PSJA Early College High School Bears for the UIL Region IV title. The Tigers will enter the regional finals with a record of 26-9, while the Bears have a record of 31-3-1.
The first pitch for the Region IV Finals is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Calallen High School. Game two will be at noon Friday and, if necessary, game three will be played at 6 p.m. Saturday.
