CALALLEN — The Dripping Springs High School baseball team is now advancing to the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A D2 State Semifinals after playing a three-game series last week.
On Thursday, May 22, the Tigers traveled to Calallen High School to play the series against the Pharr San Juan Alamo High School Bears, which was for the UIL 6A D2 Region IV finals. The Bears won the first game 6-4, but then, on Friday, the Tigers bounced back to win game two with the final score of Tigers 4, Bears 1.
The winning Tiger pitcher in game two was Taylor Tracy, who had a total of 12 strikeouts.
On Saturday, the Tigers returned for game three of the series in a winner take all and an opportunity to play in UIL 6A D2 State Semifinals. The Tigers called on pitcher Blake Cox, who pitched five innings and allowed two runs. He was assisted by pitcher Cooper Rummel, who came in and closed out for the win.
In the top of the third inning, Tiger catcher Gavin Hoel hit a homerun over the right field fence for the first run for the Tigers. The Tigers scored three additional runs and the final score was Tigers 4, Bears 2.
The Tigers have now advanced to the UIL 6A D2 State Semifinals and will face the Kingwood High School Mustangs, who are Regional III champions with an overall record of 36-3, at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 7 p.m. Friday, May 30, and 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31. All games will be played at Riverside Park in Victoria.
