BUDA — US Foods broke ground Tuesday, June 3, on a $120 million expansion project in Buda, a major investment expected to add 170,000 square feet of space and create 165 new jobs over the next decade.

Executives and local leaders gathered for a ceremonial groundbreaking at the company’s distribution center, marking a significant milestone for both the national foodservice distributor and the rapidly growing Central Texas region.

Buda Mayor Lee Urbanovsky noted that US Foods’ decision to stay in Buda was a “testament to commitment.” “This expansion means more than just square footage,” the mayor said. “It means that Buda is not just a place to do business, but it’s a place to thrive in business.” PHOTO BY BRITTANY KELLEY

“This project is a big piece of bringing our ambition to life,” said Bill Hancock, chief supply chain officer at US Foods. “It fuels our goal to be the undisputed best in the industry and helps differentiate us from the competition.”

The expansion represents years of planning and collaboration, according to Hancock, who also emphasized the economic ripple effect the project will generate.

“One hundred and seventy thousand square feet, 165 new jobs [and] $120 million of capital invested in this community — this is huge,” he said.

The Buda facility, which serves a broad mix of restaurants, hospitals, government institutions and hospitality clients across Central Texas, has been a part of the community for more than a decade. The expansion is expected to modernize and enhance its distribution capabilities to meet increasing demand.

Buda Mayor Lee Urbanovsky praised US Foods for deepening its commitment to Buda.

“This expansion means more than just square footage. It means job opportunities, continued investment and confidence in the heart of Central Texas,” Urbanovsky said. “When a company chooses not only to stay in Buda, but also to grow here, it speaks volumes about our workforce and our shared future.”

Local and state partners also played key roles in securing the expansion. Representatives from the Buda Economic Development Corporation, the Hays-Caldwell Economic Development Partnership and the Office of the Governor were recognized during the event.

“We had many options when it came to where to invest in Central Texas,” Hancock said. “But thanks to the leadership of Mayor Urbanovsky, the city of Buda and our economic development partners, the decision to stay and grow here was an easy one.”

Taylor McIntyre, president of US Foods’ Buda division, echoed that sentiment and thanked the company’s customers and employees for making the expansion possible.

“We support hospitality, healthcare, government and restaurants — everything from national chains to independent operators,” McIntyre said. “Our motto is, ‘We help you make it.’ That’s our commitment to our customers and the industry we serve.”

McIntyre closed the ceremony by inviting guests to tour the facility’s kitchen and enjoy a luncheon showcasing US Foods’ culinary offerings.

“We are food people. We love to be social,” he said with a smile . “Thank you for being part of this very special day.”

The expanded facility is expected to be operational by 2027.
