DRIPPING SPRINGS — During the consent and business agenda portion of its July 1 meeting, Dripping Springs City Council unanimously approved several appointments and reappointments.
Farmers Market Committee
On the Farmers Market Committee, Gouri Johannsen, Erika Fritz and Claudia Oney were reappointed and Frankie Bayne was appointed for terms ending June 30, 2027. Johannsen was reappointed as committee chair for a one-year term ending June 30, 2026.
The committee fulfills the mission of the market, provides oversight of the market to make recommendations related to the market and serves as an advisory body for the city council.
Emergency Management
Council member Geoffrey Tahuahua was appointed as the chair of the Emergency Management Committee for a one-year term. Members of the committee, which are appointed by council, are selected at-large — one seat — and as representatives of the following organizations that are integral in the operation of the Emergency Management Program:
- Chamber of commerce representative
- Hays County Community Emergency Response Team representative
- Hays County Constable or designee
- Emergency Services District 1 representative
- Emergency Services District 6 representative
- Dripping Springs ISD representative
- Hays County Fire Marshal or designee
- Hays County Emergency Services representative
- At-large, Hays County resident
Founders Day
Sirenna Cumberland was appointed to the Founders Day Committee (FDC) as an at-large member representing DSISD for a two-year term, ending June 30, 2027, with Scott Berry as her alternate.
This committee is a 14-member advisory body tasked with managing the city of Dripping Springs’ Annual Founders Day celebration. The members are appointed by the city council for two-year terms and a recent update to an ordinance allows for up to one additional at-large seat for a total of 15 members.
FDC has recommended appointing a representative from DSISD to facilitate event coordination and continued use of DSISD property at 300 Sportsplex Drive and 510 Mercer St. during the festival. Expanding the carnival footprint on DSISD property would assist in alleviating vendor booth congestion on Mercer Street, improving health, safety and first responder access to all areas of the festival, according to agenda documents.
Municipal Court Judge
Marilyn Miller, attorney at law, was appointed as the city of Dripping Springs municipal court judge for a two-year term ending June 2027. According to the city, every odd year, council selects the municipal court judge for a term of two years.
Currently, Miller serves as the municipal court judge and has been the judge for more than 20 years. She is a licensed attorney in good standing, practices locally in Dripping Springs and has volunteered to continue her appointment.
Transportation
Scott Berry was appointed and Doug Crosson, John Pettit and council member Travis Crow were reappointed to the Transportation Committee for terms ending June 30, 2027. Crow was also appointed as the committee chair for a one-year term.
There were three expiring seats on the committee, not including the chair appointment. The committee member representing DSISD is stepping down and the school district recommended Berry, the chief operations officer, to serve on the committee. The other two members with expiring terms were seeking reappointment.
Additionally, a mayoral appointment of council member Wade King was approved to the Transportation & Streets Areas of Oversight.
