Barton Springs Edwards-Aquifer Conservation District general manager steps down
Tim Loftus

AUSTIN — Dr. Tim Loftus has stepped down as general manager of the Barton Springs-Edwards Aquifer Conservation District (BSEACD).

Since he assumed the role in January 2022, he advanced the district’s mission to protect and manage groundwater resources amid ongoing environmental and regional challenges, according to a BSEACD news release.

“It has been a pleasure to work with my staff and board of directors in service to our groundwater community. Much has been accomplished over the past few years and I’m pleased to leave the district in a good place for continued success,” said Loftus.

Loftus' tenure included overseeing the development of the district’s new database and managing the project and conservation grant award for two new monitoring wells, including the Barton Springs Multiport Well in Zilker Park. He also guided improvements to numerous district processes and policies, along with testifying at the capitol in support of Senate Bill 1745, hired new staff members and provided project management for the ongoing Trinity Aquifer Sustainable Yield Study.

“Tim brought a practical approach and a clear commitment to the district during a critical time. His focus on process improvements and long-term planning helped position the district to meet ongoing and future challenges. We appreciate his service and wish him all the best moving forward,” said board president Vanessa Puig-Williams.

The district is grateful for Loftus' dedication to managing local groundwater resources, especially as the organization has navigated extended drought, climate change and rapid growth in the region during his tenure, the release continued. The board and staff are excited for him as he pursues additional interests in his career journey.

“Tim is dedicated, meticulous, and cares deeply for the community and environment. With those qualities, I look forward to seeing what he does for his next adventure,” said Blayne Stansberry, board vice president.

The district has begun its search for a visionary leader to serve as the next general manager and guide the organization into its next chapter.
