JOHNSON CITY — Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) is accepting applications for community grants through Nov. 3.
Nonprofits located in and around PEC’s service area can apply for up to $5,000 for projects related to technology, energy efficiency and capital improvements. The grants are funded by PEC members, who participate in the cooperative’s Power of Change program.
“Since the Power of Change program began in 2016, our members have donated more than $1 million,” said Celeste Mikeska, PEC community relations manager. “These grants help fund important work that strengthens our communities and we’re proud to play a role in this positive change.”
Supporting communities through charitable giving is part of the cooperative business model, stated a PEC news release. In 2024, PEC awarded Hats Off for Veterans (HOFV) a $5,000 grant to purchase new equipment, including a laptop, digital camera, design software, projector and other tools needed to help veterans access online clinics and therapy for post traumatic stress disorder and other support services.
“We can’t thank PEC enough,” said Lisa Adams, HOFV CEO. “This grant has made it possible to meet our veterans where they are and to better care for those who have served our country so selflessly.”
PEC members can enroll in the Power of Change Program and elect to have their bills rounded to the nearest dollar each month for charity, or they can make a one-time donation. In addition to grants, Power of Change supports PEC’s United Charities program, financial assistance for members in need, youth education programs, local libraries and education foundations.
The average donation for members who round-up each month is less than $6 per year, or $0.50 per month. Members can learn more and enroll today at mypec.com/change. To apply for a PEC grant, visit www.mypec.com/grants.
