DRIPPING SPRINGS — In a non-district matchup Friday, Aug. 29, the Dripping Springs High School Tigers hosted the 2024 defending 6A D2 state champions, the Vandegrift High School Vipers, ultimately securing a 41-14 win.
The Tigers had a well-balanced offensive attack and the halftime score was Tigers 20, Vipers 7. The Tigers tacked on an additional 21 points in the second half and the final score was Tigers 41, Vipers 14.
The Tigers finished the game with 418 total offensive yards and the Vipers were held 242 total yards on offense by a strong Tiger defense.
Tigers junior quarterback Chase Ames completed 17 out of 24 passes for 244 yards and three touchdowns Senior Cooper Reid had five receptions for 83 yards and one touchdown. Finally, senior Merrik Bloomgren had three receptions for 42 yards and one touchdown.
After the game, head coach Galen Zimmerman stated that he was impressed by the consistent play of his athletes and how they came out and played aggressive against a tough opponent. He also mentioned his proudest moment of the game was seeing his son on the field along with the other players.
The Tigers are back in action for a non-district game at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at San Antonio's Wagner High School.
