Kyle hosted its second annual City Fest Saturday, Oct. 18. The event began last year and serves as both a fall festival and an opportunity for community members to learn more about their city.

Mayor Travis Mitchell delivered his eighth and final address during the State of the City segment, but he explained that he wanted this year to look different, so instead of discussing numbers and the city’s future growth, he wanted to highlight the history of Kyle. Mitchell said that he spent the past year gathering stories of the city to put together a presentation to show his constituents. “The stories I’ve shared tonight are just a sliver of Kyle history … Our history is filled with courage and contradictions,” he said. “The folks who came before us were not perfect. Just like today, they argued, they struggled [and] they failed, but they also built and dreamed and believed this little town could become something bigger.”

Part of the festivities included a chili cook-off, where local residents could compete for first place in both a judge’s and peoples’ choice category. Pictured, Sweet Chili holds its first place trophy for judge’s choice.
