LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Every Child Deserves Someone Assigned to Care

My name is Sarah Welles, a local mother and student who believes something simple:

No child should have to struggle before they are noticed.

We spend millions reacting to crises, funerals, hospitalizations, disciplinary proceedings, but very little on prevention. I didn’t grow up wanting a therapist. I grew up wanting one adult who asked if I was okay.

That’s why I spent months drafting The Welles Youth Resilience Act (WYRA), a preventative framework designed to ensure that every student is paired with a designated support advocate throughout their school journey. Not a hotline. Not a one-time counselor visit. A consistent, trained human being who knows their name and checks in before things go wrong.

WYRA is not about replacing teachers, parents, or counselors. It’s about building a safety net between them. It can be implemented through existing staff, phased in gradually, and measured by improvements in attendance, behavior, and wellbeing. In other words, it’s not just compassionate, it’s practical.

I’m not writing this for sympathy. I’m writing this because prevention is cheaper than regret, and because I know I’m not the only one who believes this.

If even one parent, educator, or policymaker reading this agrees that every student deserves someone assigned to care, I invite you to explore WYRA for yourself at WellesYouthResilienceAct.org.

It’s time we stop waiting for emergencies before deciding a child was worth saving.

Sincerely,
Sarah Welles

Just 8 Months

That’s how long we have been subjected to “the King”

As Dr Zhivalgo’s father said in the movie, “I wish they’d decide once and for all which gang of hooligans constitutes the government of this Country.”

*We are no longer a member of Global Climate Accord.

*Refineries are still polluting without penalties.

* No more pennies. How does that work?

* Continued support of a Country that has been practicing Genocide for the last past 2 years.

•   The Department of Defense has been changed to The Department of WAR.

And this is just an itsy bitsy speck of all the changes made in the over 200 Executive Orders signed as of September of this year.

What will it be like 3 yrs and 4 months from now? Will we still have the ‘Land of the Free and the home of the Brave’?

Are you sick and tired of the present situation in Washington?

Our President is NOT stupid. It’s just that he’s not using his intelligence to “make a better world”.

Here are some of our Representatives in Congress who ARE working very hard to ‘make a better world’ – for ME and YOU. Please write to let them know you appreciate their efforts. Even one letter is better than none.

This list of US Representatives DO NOT say one thing and then turn around and do the opposite. These are OUR people. They work every day to make laws that will benefit the people and the land we call America. They need your encouragement.

Please take time to drop a note of appreciation to at least one of these Congressmen or another of your choice.
