Dripping Springs Tigers claim bi-district championship

DRIPPING SPRINGS — The Dripping Springs Tigers football team hosted the Vista Ridge High School Rangers Nov. 14 in a bi-district showdown in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A D2 Region IV playoffs, bringing out a 38-14 win.

In the first quarter, Tiger Jaceton Gotta scored on the first series of the game with a 58-yard rushing touchdown and the Tigers led 7-0. The second score came in the second quarter, when the Tigers' quarterback threw a 36-yard touchdown to James Montgomery and the Tigers led 14-0. The Rangers scored with 10 seconds remaining in the second quarter and the halftime score was Tigers 14, Rangers 7.

At the start of the third quarter, the Rangers kicked off to the Tigers and after a few plays on fourth down, the Tigers punted the ball. The Tigers recovered the ball after the ball hit the Rangers player on the helmet. Tiger Jaceton Gotta later scored on a 3-yard touchdown run.

The Tigers scored again on a 11-yard pass and a 56-yard pass from Tiger quarterback Chase Ames to Cooper Reid. Capitalizing on several turnovers by the rangers, the Tigers ultimately pulled out a 38-14 final score.

The Tigers now advance to the UIL 6A D2 area playoffs. The team will travel to Alamo Stadium and take on San Antonio's Harlan High School Hawks at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21.

Notable Tigers Offensive Stats:

•   Quarterback Chase Ames: 30 attempts and 20 completions for 275 yards passing

•   Running back Jaceton Gotta ran for 88 yards and 23 yards passing

•   Receiver Cooper Reid had four receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns

•   Receiver Merrik Bloomgren had five receptions for 38 yards

Notable Tigers Defensive Stats:

•   Malachi Igharo with one interception

•   Liam Lawson with one interception
