Kyle City Council acknowledged two newly-elected council members at its Nov. 18 swearing in ceremony. Claudia Zapata, pictured above, was sworn in by Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra. She replaced previous District 3 representative Miguel Zuniga. “[My mom] instilled in me, I think, the love of people. My mom is someone who just really, really loves people and I just hope that I can be as compassionate and kind and caring of a leader as she has been her entire life … I want to do big things and I want to do big things together and I look forward to working with my colleagues,” said Zapata.
Melisa Medina will sit in the District 2 seat, previously held by Robert Rizo. “I want to thank everybody who voted for me [and] who believed in me throughout this campaign. I will do everything in my power to not let you down,” said Medina.
Prior to the ceremony, the dais recognized council member Miguel Zuniga for his work over the past three years. Each council member spoke and noted the camaraderie they shared and Zuniga’s dedication for his community, wishing him well. He was also presented with a memento from council for his time. Additionally, multiple residents stated that Zungia was a man of integrity and encouraged the council member to run again in the future. “I want to express my deepest gratitude to our community and to everyone who supported me along the way. Serving this city has truly been one of my greatest honors of my life,” said Zuniga.
