WIMBERLEY — At its Dec. 4 meeting, Wimberley City Council unanimously approved an interlocal agreement (ILA) between the city and Hays County for floodplain administration and environmental health services.
In the ILA, which will renew the existing agreement between the two municipalities, the county will provide the following:
• Assistance in reviews, inspections and enforcement of the city's Flood Damage Prevention Regulations.
• Review, inspect, permit and enforce county Food Establishment Regulations within Wimberley city limits.
• Perform health inspections for daycare and foster care facilities.
• Continue the county's Mosquito Surveillance Program.
According to city administrator Tim Patek, the services will not change between the previous and the existing agreements; however, there will be an increase in the fee paid by the city. The fee, which was accounted for in the 2025-26 fiscal year budget, will increase from $3,000 per month to $5,000.
“This is basically the same contract that we had last year with [the county]. There are some increases on their side, which they notified us about that,” he said. “We have it in our budget to cover that and so, the real cost increase is mainly on the health side of it, [such as] inspecting the restaurants and the churches and the daycares and schools.”
Wimberley City Council meets next at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18.
