James Koehler

James Koehler, age 82, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026. He was born on November 5, 1943.

James lived a full life marked by dedication, resilience, and love for his family. He was known to be dependable, kind, joyful, and deeply committed to his family and to his community through service. He will be remembered for the way he cared deeply for those closest to him, for the impact he had on everyone fortunate enough to know him, as well as for his jovial laugh that brought joy to any room.

As a young man, James proudly served as a reservist in the Army National Guard of Texas for six years, from 1964 to 1970, reflecting his lifelong commitment to service, responsibility, and community.

James worked for the United States Postal Service in Austin, Texas for more than three decades, from 1966 until his retirement in 1999 and was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and friendly demeanor.

A defining part of James's life was his service to his community. He devoted countless hours to youth sports programs, serving as president of the youth baseball association in Buda, Texas, and as a coach for several of his sons' baseball and soccer teams. He also served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Kyle and coached and played for the church's softball team for many years. He was never reluctant to step forward when help was needed. His involvement left a lasting impact on many families and young lives.

James was also a lifetime Texas Longhorns fan and rarely missed a Longhorn football or baseball game if he could help it. Cheering on the Longhorns was one of his great joys.

Throughout his life, James took pride in his work and valued integrity, hard work, and perseverance. He found joy in life's simple moments and leaves behind many memories that will be cherished by family and friends.

James is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Pat Koehler; his two sons, Keith Koehler and Kris Koehler; his grandson, David Koehler; and his siblings, Ken Koehler and Barbara Hollingsworth. His legacy lives on through them and the values he instilled in his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rudolph Koehler, and his mother, Margaret Koehler.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle, Texas. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., also at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hays-Caldwell Women's Center in James's honor at https://www.hcwc.org/donate/.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
