RICHARDSON — Texas nonprofits can now apply for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) 2026-27 Blue Impact grant application.
According to a news release, the application is open for Texas nonprofits focused on improving social determinants of health and these grants and other BCBSTX community investments directly target the social and economic factors that play a role in health and wellness.
“At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, we understand that health is shaped by more than medical care alone,” said Patty Escoe, vice president of Texas Plan Operations. “This is why we launched our grant program 15 years ago and have partnered with community organizations that know their neighborhood best. We continue to see the impact of our grant investments guided by local insight and data. We are proud to support solutions that strengthen communities and improve health outcomes.”
The Blue Impact grant program is one of the ways BCBSTX supports local communities, in addition to micro-grants and sponsorships, in-kind donations, employee volunteerism and disaster relief, the release stated.
BCBSTX’s community investments align under five areas of focus to support the company’s mission to expand access to care. Focus areas include:
• Economic opportunity and stability: Addressing issues — such as poverty — removing barriers to employment, providing good jobs and upskilling.
• Food access and nutrition: Supporting efforts to decrease hunger and increase access to nutritional food.
• Neighborhood and built environment: Focusing on affordable, healthy housing, as well as access to transportation and physical activity.
• Locally defined health solutions: Addressing hyperlocal health and human service needs.
• Optimal health outcomes: Helping close gaps in care, specifically around six priority areas: immunizations, diabetes care, cardiovascular care, behavioral health, early detection cancer screening and maternal and infant health.
“We know investing in the health of our communities will create a world where we all have the opportunity to thrive,” said Jim Springfield, BCBSTX president. “As the state’s oldest and largest health insurer, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas is dedicated to expanding access to health care and improving health outcomes starting in communities where we live and work.”
Applications are due by Jan. 30. Following the close of the application period, submissions will undergo a comprehensive review and applicants will know if they will receive funding by early June.
