Hays High School Hawks varsity swimmer, Daniela Castro, competes in the 100-yard breaststroke during the 2026 University Interscholastic League (UIL) Swim and Dive State Meet, held at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center at The University of Texas at Austin Friday, Feb. 20. Castro, a senior member of the Hays Aquatic swim team, was the sole individual swimmer who qualified for UIL State. She competed in three events — the 100-yard breast stroke, the 100-yard backstroke and the 50-yard freestyle — advancing to finals for the latter. As an individual swimmer, she placed 10th overall for the 50-yard freestyle Saturday, Feb. 21.

The Hawks’ relay team is the first Hays High School female swim relay team to qualify for State in the program’s history. After the preliminary round, the team advanced to the 200-yard medley relay finals and, ultimately, placed ninth overall in the state.
