Dripping Springs High School senior earns bronze at UIL State

DRIPPING SPRINGS  — Dripping Springs High School senior Laurel Hoskovec turned in a record-setting performance with a third-place in the 500-yard freestyle at the University Interscholastic League 6A State Swimming Meet Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin.

Hoskovec broke her own school record by more than two seconds with a finals time of 4:54.70 for the bronze medal. She also advanced to the finals in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing eighth in 1:50.55 after setting a new school record of 1:50.53 during the preliminaries.

In relay competition, Hoskovec teamed with Fairlane Bynum, Charlotte Riffel and Izzy Boldrick to place seventh in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:31.01. She also joined Bynum and Riffel, along with Lexi Landrum, to finish eighth in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:36.33.

Dripping Springs placed 14th as a team with 73 points.
