Hays CISD Communications Specialist and former teacher David Bowe was placed on administrative leave after allegations of improprieties with former students were made on social media.
Former Hays students started making allegations on Facebook against Bowe July 8. Bowe started working in the district as an economics teacher at Hays High School in August 1998. In January 2017, he became the district’s communications specialist.
Hays CISD released a statement not long after the allegations were circulating on social media.
“He was immediately placed on administrative leave and the district launched an investigation,” the statement read. “The district has also reported the matter to Child Protective Services and will be cooperating with law enforcement agencies.”
The district ensures the community that the matter at hand is taken seriously, as all employees are held to the same standard.
“All employees, regardless of position in the district, are subject to the same expectation of the highest standards of professionalism,” the statement read. “The district has strict procedures and policy in place to ensure that allegations, such as those made in the matter, are thoroughly investigated and reported to the proper authorities; and that employees are held to account.”
The district also encourages anyone with knowledge about the incidents to report the information.
“If any student past or present has any information that is pertinent to this case, the district encourages them to report it to their local law enforcement agency,” the statement read.
