DRIPPING SPRINGS — Dripping Springs ISD announced the district’s new deputy superintendent and interim chief academic officer.

An educator with more than two decades of experience, Dr. Karen Kidd has served as DSISD’s assistant superintendent for Learning & Innovation for the past six years and now, she has been promoted to deputy superintendent. During her tenure, she has played a key role in building the academic systems needed to ensure high-quality outcomes for students as a fast-growth district, according to a DSISD news release. She has spent nearly 17 years as a campus and central office administrator, overseeing curriculum, accountability, assessment and professional learning.
As deputy superintendent, Kidd will continue to lead the district’s academic programs, including oversight of campus principals and a newly-created chief academic officer (CAO) position.
As a strategic cost-saving measure, the release stated, DSISD will repurpose the assistant superintendent for Learning & Innovation position vacated by Kidd into a CAO role, which will lead the district’s academic programs, curriculum and instructional strategy, assisting in DSISD’s mission to provide a personal and exceptional education to every student.

Maureen Jamail, who announced her retirement in May as Walnut Springs Elementary School’s principal, will serve as interim CAO as the district begins its search to fill the role.
Jamail has been with DSISD for 21 years, most recently serving four years as WSE principal. A strong academic leader, her successful career in public education includes valuable experience at the elementary and secondary levels, the release stated.
Kidd and Jamail will begin serving in their new roles immediately.
