BUDA — Six-and-a-half years following its opening during COVID-19, Mudbugs - A Cajun Joint closed after failing to pay rent.
A letter, dated July 15, posted on the door of the Buda restaurant outlines a history of missed payments that led to the ultimate closure: “On April 7, 2026, the Landlord delivered notice to Tenant of Tenant’s unpaid rent and other charges in the amount of $15,090.19. Tenant cured its April default, but has now become delinquent in rent for the month of July 2026.”
The total payment due, according to the letter, is $14,151.50, which includes $13,477.62 for July rent and $673.88 in late fees. Additionally, the letter demands $1,000 in attorney fees.
In a social media post Thursday, July 16, the business addressed the closure, stating, “We are saddened to come to the decision to close Mudbugs and, while we loved serving Buda and the other great towns around us, the times we are in have led us to this painful result.”
Additionally, the post addresses rumors of unpaid employees: “We are still working hard to get our staff caught up and paid what they are due.”
“Again, we are incredibly thankful for the support, friendships and memories we’ve shared with this amazing community. It has truly been our privilege to serve Buda,” the post concluded.
