KYLE — The Kyle Police Department is joining the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and other law enforcement agencies across Texas for Operation Slowdown, which is a statewide traffic enforcement campaign aimed at reducing speed-related crashes and encouraging drivers to slow down and drive safely.
From July 18 through Aug. 3, KPD officers will increase traffic enforcement efforts with a focus on speeding violations. The campaign supports TxDOT's "Drive Like a Texan: Kind. Courteous. Safe." campaign, which encourages drivers to make safe choices behind the wheel.
During Operation Slowdown, officers will focus on identifying drivers who exceed the speed limit or fail to adjust their speed for traffic, weather, construction zones or other roadway conditions. While enforcement is an important part of the campaign, the ultimate goal is to prevent crashes before they happen, a KPD news release stated.
KPD encourages drivers to:
• Follow all posted speed limits and adjust speed for traffic and weather conditions.
• Leave early to avoid the temptation to speed.
• Increase following distance, especially during heavy traffic or wet road conditions.
• Watch for changing speed limits in school and construction zones.
• Avoid distractions to stay focused on the road.
Every driver plays a role in making Texas roads safer. By following these simple steps, motorists can help protect themselves, their passengers and everyone else on the road, the release continued.
KPD reminds motorists that traffic laws are enforced year-round, but during Operation Slowdown, officers will place additional emphasis on identifying and stopping dangerous speeding behaviors.
