WIMBERLEY — The Wimberley High School Lady Texans volleyball team made an early-season statement with a straight-set victory over the defending Class 5A state champion Cedar Park High School Timberwolves, winning 25-16, 25-23 and 26-24 in the home game Tuesday, Aug. 18. The sweep improved to Wimberley to a perfect 11-0 on the season.
Wimberley controlled the opening set before holding off the Timberwolves in a pair of tightly contested sets to complete the sweep. Trinity Laney led the Lady Texan attack with 10 kills, while Bianca Morh handed out 15 assists.
Defensively, Kara Thames recorded a team-high 16 digs and Skylar Mears provided a strong presence on the net with four blocks. Ella Brassow added three aces from the service line.
The team picked up six more wins and two losses in a tournament in Glen Rose over the weekend, bringing its record to 17-2 overall. The Lady Texans have yet to begin district play.
Following a press time game against San Marcos High School, the team will compete in a tournament in Seguin Aug. 27-29. The next home game is at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, against Bowie High School.
