SAN MARCOS — The Hays County Tax Office is upgrading its property tax software for the first time in more than 20 years, marking a significant modernization of the systems used to serve Hays County taxpayers.
The transition to the new system will improve the Tax Office’s long-term efficiency and operations, while providing staff with updated technology to better serve the public, read a news release.
“After more than two decades on our current system, this upgrade is an important investment in how we serve Hays County taxpayers,” tax assessor-collector Jennifer Escobar said. “While the transition will require a brief period of limited service, the new system will give our staff better tools to work efficiently and provide the level of service our growing community expects and deserves.”
To complete the transition, the Hays County Tax Office’s property tax system are unavailable as of Sept. 21. Full property tax services are expected to resume Oct. 13.
During the transition period, the following services will be unavailable:
• Online property tax payments
• Property tax account lookups and balance information
• Payment history and tax statement requests
• Other services requiring access to property tax account records
Residents may still pay property tax by cash or check in person at any Hays County Tax Office location or using a Tax Office drop box. Payments made in person will be processed manually and taxpayers will receive a manual receipt at the time of payment.
Taxpayers who anticipate needing an account balance, payment history, tax statement or other property tax account information during the transition are encouraged to obtain those records before Sept. 21.
The Hays County Tax Office appreciates the public’s patience as staff complete the transition. The new system represents a long-term investment in modernizing Tax Office operations and improving service for Hays County taxpayers for years to come.
