DRIPPING SPRINGS — Chase Ames threw for 330 yards and five touchdowns, Frank Accetta Jr. rushed for 159 yards and two scores and the Dripping Springs High School Tigers produced 596 yards of offense in a 62-28 victory over the Harker Heights High School Knights Friday, Sept. 18, at Tiger Stadium.
The Tigers improved to 2-1 and finished their nondistrict schedule by combining an efficient passing game with 221 rushing yards. Harker Heights fell to 2-2, despite gaining 467 yards.
Ames completed 25 of 30 passes without an interception. Accetta added another touchdown through the air, completing his only pass for 29 yards, as Dripping Springs finished 27 of 32 for 375 passing yards and six touchdowns.
“The scoreboard is the scoreboard, but I’m more proud of how we played, how we practiced throughout the week, our preparation and how we executed in the game,” Dripping Springs coach Galen Zimmerman said. “If we do those things, the scoreboard will take care of itself.”
Judah Satterfield led the Tigers’ receivers with 10 catches for 153 yards and three touchdowns. Dodge Reid caught five passes for 110 yards, while Harrison Rohrer finished with seven receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown.
Jake Bremer added a 15-yard touchdown reception. Senior defensive end Major Bettridge also entered on offense in the third quarter and caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Ames out of the Tigers’ short-yardage package.
“We have a short-yardage package that allows some of our defensive players to show off their skills,” Zimmerman said.
Accetta averaged 8.8 yards on 18 carries and had a long run of 39 yards. Ryder Frost added 44 yards on seven attempts, as the Tigers averaged 6.5 yards per carry.
Dripping Springs opens District 26-6A play Friday, Sept. 25, against Akins High School at Burger Stadium in Austin. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
“District is the second season. Everybody is 0-0 and now the games count,” Zimmerman said. “Hopefully, we can go 1-0 and keep ourselves in the top half of the district.”
