DRIPPING SPRINGS — The Dripping Springs High School Tigers football team continued its strong run through District 26-6A with a 41-3 victory over the Austin High School Maroons Thursday, Oct. 8, at House Park.
The Tigers controlled the game on both sides of the ball, keeping the Maroons out of the end zone, while producing their third consecutive district win.
Dripping Springs improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in district play. The Tigers have won four straight games since a 35-25 loss at Round Rock High School Sept. 11.
Senior quarterback Chase Ames completed 26 of 34 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns. Junior running back Frank Accetta led Dripping Springs with 94 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Solomon West Rand caught six passes for 104 yards, while Harrison Rohrer had five catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. Senior wide receiver Judah Satterfield caught eight passes for 61 yards and a touchdown and senior running back and safety Trip Wiese added 42 rushing yards and a touchdown on six carries.
The defensive performance continued an impressive district stretch for Dripping Springs. The Tigers opened district play with a 75-0 win over Akins High School, before defeating Johnson High School 49-21 and Austin High School 41-3. Dripping Springs has outscored its first three district opponents 165-24.
Satterfield said the victory was a team effort and that he sees more ahead for the Tigers.
“It was a good team win and I’m excited for the rest of the games because I know this is just the beginning for our team,” he said.
Wiese said his performance reflected the support of his teammates.
“All glory goes to God and my teammates,” he said. “I wouldn’t be where I am without them.”
Wiese also said the Tigers support one another after big plays.
“That’s what we get here in Dripping Springs: You cheer on one teammate and they’ll cheer you right back,” he said.
Head coach Galen Zimmerman said the victory gave the Tigers reason to celebrate, while leaving room for improvement.
“There are a lot of positives tonight,” Zimmerman said. “As coaches, we’re going to be perfectionists and talk about things we can still get better at. But I want our guys to be excited about tonight and being 3-0 in district.”
Zimmerman also praised the team’s depth, saying its running back Wiese made the most of his opportunity. He said the players would use the long weekend to recover and prepare for the rest of the season.
“It’s a long season and hopefully we’re playing for a long time,” Zimmerman said.
Dripping Springs returns home to face Bowie High School at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. The Tigers then travel to face Hays High School Friday, Oct. 23.
