One San Marcos Police Officer was killed and two wounded on Saturday, April 18 while responding to a domestic disturbance call on Hunter Road in San Marcos.
Police Chief Bob Klett said in a Sunday morning press conference that Officer Justin R Putnam, a five-year veteran of the force, was killed by a suspect later found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Wounded were Officers Franco Stewart and Justin P. Mueller. Both underwent surgery at Ascension Seton in Kyle and were, Klett said, in “critical but stable condition.”
Putnam was the second San Marcos to be killed in the line of duty in less than three years. Officer Kenneth Copeland was shot while serving a warrant in relation to a domestic disturbance on Dec. 4, 2017. Copeland was the first San Marcos officer to ever die in the line of duty.
