It’s not often that an organization gets to celebrate a 100th anniversary. This year the League of Women Voters-US is proud to do just that. Born out of the women’s suffrage movement of the early 1900s, the League of Women Voters was formed in 1920 to continue its work: educating, supporting and protecting voters’ rights in Texas.
Join us to commemorate the 100th anniversary at the annual fundraising event. The 32nd Annual LWV Taste of Texas Wine and Beer Tasting and Silent Auction, to be held 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Holiday Inn Convention Centerin San Marcos.
The LWV-Hays County fundraiser will feature a variety of Texas wines and beers. This year’s winery is Winery on the Gruene and we will feature its shiraz, chianti, sauvignon blanc and chardonnay. Beer lovers will find craft beers blonde and apricot from Aqua Brewery and pecan and easy rider from Middleton Brewery. New to the tasting this year are Texas nonalcoholic wine and beer. There will be something for everyone!
In addition to the wine and beer tastings, there will be a silent auction featuring themed baskets as well as gift certificates for local goods and services.
Funds from this single, annual event support LWV-Hays County projects. The League is well known and appreciated for its nonpartisan support of candidates and voters through county-wide debates, forums, voters guides that appear in local newspapers, and Vote 411, the online information source for voter information.
Tickets for the event are $20 and can be purchased from a League member, at the door on the night of the event, or online by visiting the website at www.lwvhaysco.com.
