The Hays CISD is investigating a small fire in a bathroom at Lehman High School that authorities believe was intentionally set.
According to district spokesman Tim Savoy, several rolls of toilet paper were found burning in a stall. Law enforcement and fire department investigators are pursuing the case as a possible arson, Savoy said, which could result in felony charges for the person responsible.
A teacher who smelled smoke pulled the fire alarm at approximately 10:05 a.m. The building was evacuated and the fire did not spread outside the stall, though it did send smoke through much of the building.
Students were allowed to return shortly after 11 a.m., after the building had been vented.
In a message to parents, Principal Karen Zuniga said that no one is injured. "And, I am confident that investigators will be able to determine who is responsible.
