Daycares within the Kyle city limits were allowed to reopen on Monday under an order signed by Mayor Travis Mitchell.
The order specifies that the facilities can only care for the children of people deemed “essential” during the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a link (https://tdem.texas.gov/essentialservices/) on the city’s website where residents can determine whether they are so defined.
Facilities have to keep children in the same group all day, and children from the same household will be grouped together.
Examples of grouping include five children from a maximum of five households and nine children from three households. Each group must have its separate room and not mix with one another, and childcare providers stay with the same group all day.
All facility staff will be required to wear facemarks and observe other protocols consistent with CDC guidelines. In addition to masks, those guidelines address social distancing, cleaning and disinfecting and changes to drop off and pickup procedures.
Children over the age of two will be encouraged to wear masks.
The Kyle City Council approved an ordinance closing daycares on April 7. The mayor signed the order allowing facilities to reopen on April 14.
