Many families have struggled to bring food to the table because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Central Texas Food Bank, along with Hays County Food Bank, have put in the work to provide families with food resources. Mass food distributions stretch across the state to help families and individuals in need during a difficult time.
Emergency relief food distributions operate as a drive-thru service with pre-packed boxes. The boxes are then loaded into vehicles, assisting with minimal contact as possible.
The City of Kyle will be partnering with Central Texas Food Bank for another mass food distribution on Aug. 13 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Since many schools closed their doors before summer, Texas was approved to provide more than $1 billion in pandemic food benefits.
Families are eligible for the Pandemic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program if their children previously received free or reduced-price meals. P-EBT will provide eligible families with a one-time cash benefit of $285 per child. The program follows the same rules as SNAP, requiring benefits to only be spent on food.
The application deadline for the P-EBT program has been extended to July 31. The online application is reviewed within 10 days of being submitted.
