Hays County Tax Assessor-Collector Jenifer O’Kane reminds property owners that 2019 property taxes must be paid in full by Friday, Jan. 31, to avoid penalties and interest.
“There are a variety of payment options available,” O’Kane said. “And if you wait until the 31st, chances are you will find yourself in a crowd.”
Taxpayers can drop off a check in person or in the drop box at any of the Tax Assessor-Collector’s locations (Hays County Government Center and all four precinct offices); pay online at www.hayscountytax.com by using a credit/debit/e-check option (vendor fee applies); by mail at 712 S. Stagecoach Trail, Suite 1120, San Marcos, TX 78666 (mail-in payments are not accepted at precinct offices, and payments are credited as of the postmark date); and by phone at 1-888-546-4337 (credit/debit card vendor fee applies).
Beginning Saturday, Feb 1, seven percent penalty and interest will be added to property accounts with outstanding balances. Taxpayers who are not able to pay the full amount by Jan. 31 are encouraged to pay as much as possible so that they accrue as little as possible.
Persons who pay quarterly and have 65-or-older, disabled person, or disabled veteran tax exemptions and have made their first payment on or before Jan. 31 are not assessed penalty and interest.
