Two months after opening its doors, the Inspired Minds Center has postponed classes to prevent community spread of COVID-19 and hopes the city will suspend rent for the next couple of months.
The Inspired Minds Center owner Susan Guerra said the center has a lease with the city so she hopes city council understands her inability to pay. City officials have told her not to pay April’s rent, but she awaits a final vote from city council, which has a meeting scheduled April 7.
“Since so much of our clientele is over 60 and the classes are held in close quarters, closing up shop is the moral thing to do. It is sad though because we were just starting to get on our feet and figure everything out,” Guerra said.
Despite classes being postponed, for an undecided time, locals can still enjoy local art from the comfort of home because the gallery can be seen and items bought online.
Guerra said she is working with her team to try and implement some classes online.
