Staff Report

SAN MARCOS – Even as the majority of cases of COVID-19 cases continue to occur in people aged 20-29 in Hays County, students at Texas State University have clear guidelines to follow when it comes to large gatherings.

As outlined in the university’s roadmap, many activities can be held, although modified.

Outdoor gatherings must be limited to 10 participants and those held indoor should not exceed 50 percent of the capacity of the space, and face masks and distancing is required. Pre-registration is required of co-curricular activities or the event must be recorded for purposes of possible contract tracing. Any time a co-curricular meeting or activity cannot adhere to safety guidelines, it will be offered remotely.

University spokesman Jayme Blaschke also said “tabling events may be held in the Quad Mall area if only two students are present at each table and only 50% of the table space is being used. Students cannot hand out food at tabling events.

“Visitors may come to TXST campuses for student activities if they adhere to safety standards in the Health and Safety Measures,” Blashke said. “Prior to the event, event organizers must provide communication to visitors who are at high risk for COVID-19 or over the age of 65 regarding safety considerations.
