The Kyle Planning and Zoning Commission approved three buildings to be constructed within the Interstate Highway I-35 overlay district. The property is located off Hill Street and east FM 150 between the Valero fuel station and the Sonic located on east FM 150.
The first building will be approximately 7,379 square feet and the other buildings will be about 5,301 square feet. The structure will have a burgundy color brick with an aluminum gray roof.
Commissioner Paul Scheibmeir questioned the choice of color for the project as it could possibly contrast with the nearby buildings.
“The thought that comes to my mind is when I think of the I-35 overlay requirements, I think of the other buildings that have been approved and put into place,” Scheibmeir said. “They’re nothing like this one from the initial appearance.”
Architect Mike Wills clarifies that the chosen brick is less vibrant than what the original scan shows and all three buildings will have the same, uniform color.
“The burgundy is a little bit more subtle than the garnet brick that was used on the Kyle City Hall,” Wills said. “It’s actually less red than city hall. It’s a little bit of a deeper color.”
