AUSTIN – For the first time in more than a calendar year, the Lehman Lobos are in the win column.

An explosion of offense, to the tune of 399 total yards, mixed with opportunistic defense helped Lehman easily cruise to a lopsided 61-0 Oct. 1 shutout of the Austin Navarro Vikings. The victory was the Lobos' first win since an Aug. 30, 2019 season opening win over New Braunfels Canyon.

In addition, Lehman set a pair of new school records with the result. The 61-point margin of victory is the largest ever recorded by a Lehman team and the 61 points scored is the most tallied by the program in a single game. The Lobos also recorded the program's first shutout win since the 2011-12 season.

• 61 – Oct. 1, 2020 (vs. Navarro)

• 56 – Oct. 30, 2014 (vs. Austin High)

• 49 – Aug. 29, 2008 (vs. Austin Northeast)

• 44 – Sept. 9, 2011 (vs. Crockett)

• 43 – Aug. 29, 2008 (vs. Riesel)

Lehman wasted no time leaping out to a commanding 30-0 first quarter lead. Lobo quarterback Joey Guajardo, who recorded both of his two total passing touchdowns in the first frame, went 4 of 7 for 52 yards through the air. Lobo wide receiver Roy Malett caught three passes for 38 yards and two touchdowns.

The onslaught continued in the second and third quarters as the Lobos scored 31 more unanswered points.

Most of the damage dealt by the Lobos came on the ground. Lehman amassed 322 total rushing yards in the game with running backs Tanner Johnson and Joey Mojica shouldering the bulk of the load. Johnson rushed for 98 yards on six carries and scored two touchdowns, while Mojica ran for 90 yards on six carries.

Meanwhile, Lehman's defense shut down Navarro's offense, limiting the Vikings to 41 total yards on 44 plays. In addition, the Lobos forced four total Viking turnovers and returned one fumble for a score.

Lehman travels to play at San Antonio Southwest Friday at 7:30 p.m., followed by a road game against San Antonio Harlandale Oct. 23 to begin district play.

The Lobos return home Oct. 30 when they host in-district rival Johnson at Bob Shelton Stadium.
