In a season that will be filled with plenty of firsts, the Johnson Jaguars Oct. 1 once again wasted no time in making a little history.

All around dominant play from start to finish played a role in a 56-8 Johnson win over the Crockett Cougars at Bob Shelton Stadium in the Jaguars' inaugural home game at the varsity level.

Johnson (2-0), playing its first full varsity level season, leapt out to a 21-0 first quarter lead. Helping the Jaguars attain the lead was a pair of touchdown passes from quarterback Jesse Medina to wide receiver Ethan McAlister, along with an interception return for a score by Michael Runkle.

A 45-yard second quarter interception return by Runkle, mixed with three more touchdowns on the offensive end, pushed the Jaguar lead to 49-0 at halftime.

Johnson linebacker Wyatt Melton recorded the Jaguars' final score by returning a fumble 34 yards for a touchdown.

Jaguar quarterback Jesse Medina went 8 of 11 for 195 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. McAlister led the Jags with 136 yards receiving on three catches and two scores through the air, along with 26 yards rushing on two carries and a touchdown on the ground.

Running back Quincy Ervin carried the ball 11 times for 80 yards and Carter Penchion rushed for 77 yards on 13 carries and a score.

Johnson will play at home Friday, Oct. 9 when they host Alamo Heights at Bob Shelton Stadium.
