Staff Report
A lawsuit has been filed in 207th District Court alleging County Judge Ruben Becerra received payment for duties he did not perform and asking that he be removed from office.
The action, filed Monday, Sept. 14 by Dripping Springs resident Nathan Kaspar, also asks that pending litigation, Becerra be replaced in his role leading the Commissioners Court.
Becerra applied for and accepted payment of $25,000 in 2019 and 2020 for performance of “judicial functions” including acting as a magistrate or presiding over a civil or criminal proceeding.
The document quotes administrator for Hays County Courts at Law Rene Garner as saying she would know if Becerra had performed any of the required functions.
Becerra, a Democrat, replaced Republican Bert Cobb in the county's highest office in January 2019. Pct. Commissioner Debbie Gonzales Ingalsbe is also a Democrat. Precincts 2, 3 and 4 are represented by Republicans.
