Dominance in nearly every phase of the game helped the Wimberley Texans Friday punish the Austin Achieve Polar Bears in an 80-0 demolition.
Wimberley's victory marks the second time this season the program has eclipsed the 80-point mark in a contest and is the second most points scored in program history. Earlier this season, Wimberley tallied 88 points in a win over Manor New Tech.
Providing a beacon was the Texan ground game which amassed 169 rushing yards and scored five of Wimberley's 11 total scores. Six Texans recorded at least one carry in the game with Moses Wray rushing for a team high 89 yards on six carries and a score, while Jack Boyle rushed for 31 yards and a score. Rushing touchdowns were also scored by running backs Wyatt Franchione, Cameron Cayce and Kerrick Lai.
Texan quarterback Matthew Tippie went 6 for 6 for 114 yards and three passing touchdowns.
Special teams proved special for the Texans as Wimberley finished the game with a blocked punt, a blocked field goal and a 56-yard punt return by Josh Prado, who also recorded an interception.
Equally strong was the Texan defense which had a 21-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Lai and a 22-yard interception return for a score by Franchione.
Wimberley closes the regular season with a 8-3 record as it heads into the 2020 4A, Division II postseason.
The Texans begin the playoffs Friday when they travel to play at Smithville at 7:30 p.m.
