KYLE – Mayor Travis Mitchell sees green in the New Year. Green as in the $10 million parks bond approved by voters in November; green as in how the landscapes will appear as residents flock to enjoy them in the wake of much-needed investment.

“With the passage of Prop B, as well as three other cash-funded and planned park upgrades, the city has its hands full,” Mitchell told the Hays Free Press/News-Dispatch.

His resolution for 2021, he said, “is to see these parks projects through to fruition.”

The specific plans include upgrading the landscaping on the downtown square (also partially funded by Kinder Morgan through an agreement the energy company reached with the city regarding its Permian Highway Pipeline), constructing the long-planned Heroes Memorial Park and Central Park at Uptown.

Next year could also see upgrades to the trail system on the east side of town, the construction of a new skate park at Gregg-Clarke Park and designing and constructing a new regional sportsplex and festival grounds on the north end of town.

“There is much work ahead, and I look forward to working with staff and council to shepherd these projects into reality,” Mitchell said.
