WESTLAKE – An unrelenting Westlake Chaparral attack, guided by five touchdowns from quarterback Cade Klubnik, proved too much for the Hays football team Friday in a 59-6 loss at Chaparral Stadium.

Westlake (5-0, 3-0), ranked No. 4 in the 6A state poll, rapidly gained a 28-0 first half lead.

Hays’ (3-3, 2-2) lone response of the night was a two-yard second quarter touchdown run by senior quarterback Durand Hill which cut the Chaparral lead to 28-6. Hays’ score was the first points conceded by Westlake’s defense in district play so far this season.

A late Westlake field goal before halftime gave the Chaps a 31-6 halftime lead.

But the Hays offense couldn’t crack a stellar Westlake defense that limited the team to 194 yards of total offense on the night.

Meanwhile, the Chaparrals tallied 28 more unanswered points the rest of the way, aided by three additional touchdown passes by Klubnik, who finished with five scores total.

Hill went 8 of 24 for 137 yards and had two interceptions. Hays’ senior wide receiver Bryant Lewis caught four passes for 91 yards and senior Michael Boudoin caught one pass for 16 yards.

Hays returns home Nov. 5 when they host Austin High at Bob Shelton Stadium.
