Anita Luna, a strong, independent, generous spirited person and devoted mother passed away following months of decline on Friday, September 4th, 2020 at her home in Kyle Texas.
Anita was born in Austin, Texas on September 4, 1947. She raised her family as a single mother gaining strength and self-reliance along the way. She was a woman of unlimited patience and generosity. Anita spent her life in service as a teacher. Her tenure traversed 40 years at Child Incorporated with Austin’s HeadStart program. She found her calling serving children in less fortunate neighborhoods. She loved to teach and share her love of reading. Her students carried a special place in her heart. She treated them as if they were her own children, giving them little presents for the holidays, and making sure they were safe and had the things they needed to learn.
Anita loved to read. She was known as a book-aholic, often pushing books on unsuspecting friends and family. Her second home was the library where she would find a new thriller or romance novel to quench her insatiable need to read. As a single mother, Anita always put her children and grandchildren first. She gave without hesitation and never complained. Anita’s generosity would often lead her to giving her last dollar to a stranger, and then going without, again without complaint. When her habit of giving away money would come to her daughter’s attention, Anita would tell her daughter’s that it is her money to give. She was such a prolific donor that her children often snuck money back into her purse so she would have money to spend on her own needs. Anita loved birds, especially cardinals. Known as the Bird Lady, Anita would feed the birds daily, made sure the bird bath was clean, full and defend the birds’ food from pesky squirrels. Anita also loved the little rollie pollies, pill bugs, telling children not to step on them, “they’re innocent”.
Anita leaves behind her devoted children; Belinda Cavazos and her husband Rudy, Veronica Diaz, and her husband Antonio, and Deana Villegas and her husband Joel. Her love and generosity will also be missed by her grandchildren, Anastacia, Justin, Isaac, Martin, Lauren, and Amaris. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Michelle. Anita leaves behind a legacy of charity and learning which will be cherished by so many.
