KYLE — Incumbent Travis Mitchell returns as Kyle mayor after unofficial results for the runoff election Tuesday have him winning by a 245-vote difference against challenger Linda Tenorio.
At the end of the night Tuesday, Mitchell had 1257 votes (55.4%) to Tenorio’s count at 1012 (44.6%).
Kyle elections were held on Nov. 3 during the General Election to elect the mayor and other city council positions. Four people ran for mayor then, with Tenorio leading that day with 5,858 to Mitchell’s 5,816. Two other candidates were David Abel and Peter Parcher. Without a clear majority, the top two voter recipients went into the runoff.
The fight for the mayor’s position was pitted as old against new, a new Kyle vs. trying to keep Kyle the way it was in the past during the runoff.
Mitchell said he was happy with the results. “I’m honored to continue seeing as mayor and am very thankful for the support of the community,” he said Tuesday night.
