Reports of a positive COVID-19 case at San Antonio McCollum High last week caused officials at that school to shutter its football program until early November.
As a result, Johnson, Dripping Springs and New Braunfels Canyon, the three 12-5A, Division I programs McCollum was slated to play over the next three weeks, were all awarded forfeit victories, per multiple reports.
According to a Harlandale ISD statement, football contests at all levels at McCollum High were suspended until at least Nov. 4 as a precautionary measure after an individual at the school tested positive for COVID-19. Officials at Harlandale ISD, which McCollum High is a part of, expect football practices at that campus to resume Nov. 5.
"The safety and well being of our students and staff is our main priority and we will continue to follow our COVID-19 safety procedures and monitor exposure risks," according to a Harlandale ISD statement.
Johnson High, which is playing in its first full varsity season, was slated to host McCollum Oct. 23 in its district opener, while Dripping Springs is scheduled to play McCollum Oct. 30.
Johnson returns to action Friday when it hosts Lehman in the first meeting between those two rival programs. It is unknown at this time if Dripping Springs will schedule another opponent for Oct. 30. The Tiger football team is scheduled to host Lehman Nov. 6.
