Dominance from start to finish was the mantra for the Wimberley Texans Sept. 25.
Consistent offense and a bruising defense helped Wimberley pitch a 43-0 road shutout over the Somerset Bulldogs.
Guiding the Texans (4-1) was senior quarterback Matthew Tippie who went 20 of 31 for 354 yards passing and two touchdowns. Backing up Tippie was running back Moses Wray who finished with 97 yards rushing on nine carries and a touchdown, along with running back Juan Olmedo’s 37 yards on seven carries and a touchdown.
Wimberley built a 15-0 halftime lead before exploding for 28 more unanswered points in the second half. Texan wide receiver Ty Pruett led all players with 97 yards on four catches and a touchdown, while wide receiver Colby Cotten caught three passes for 78 yards and a touchdown. Seven total Texan wide receivers recorded a catch
and five of those players had more than 40 yards receiving.
Wimberley travels to Jourdanton Friday to play Alice High in a neutral site, non-district game, followed by a Oct. 9 road test against Manor New Tech to begin district play. The Texans return home Oct. 16 when they host Austin Eastside Memorial.
