Citing a desire to pursue "amazing" opportunities in his professional career, Kyle City Council Member District 3 Shane Arabie abruptly and unexpectedly resigned his position during Tuesday's meeting.

Shortly after citizen comment, Arabie asked to speak and quickly announced his resignation.

“I haven’t been at the last couple meetings as I’m sure you’ve all noticed,” Arabie said. “I’ve had some amazing opportunities in my professional career come up and I’m taking them.”

Arabie thanked the residents in attendance and thanked council members before quickly excusing himself from the meeting.

“That was unexpected,” said Mayor Travis Mitchell. “Council member Arabie has been a highly active member here for over five years and I’m sad to see him go. We valued his expertise.”

Other council members on the dais echoed Mitchell’s comments shortly after Arabie had left the building.

A decision on how to fill Arabie's vacant seat is unknown at this time.
