ARLINGTON – Struggles in stopping a potent Pleasant Grove Hawk ground game Friday sunk the Wimberley Texans in a 35-21 loss in the 4A, Division II championship at AT&T Stadium.
Carrying the load for Pleasant Grove was running back Bruce Garrett who rushed for 254 yards on 25 carries and three key touchdowns in the contest. Anchoring Garrett’s effort was an offensive line that helped the Hawks amass 437 total yards of offense, 397 of those yards on the ground.
Pleasant Grove opened with an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown from KJ Hicks before the Texans countered back. A 14-yard touchdown pass from Texan quarterback Cooper McCollum to wide receiver Colby Boyle tied the contest at 7-7 after a frame.
