Want to put someone behind bars for a good cause?

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office Brown Santa will hold its Holiday Lockup Fundraiser Dec. 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Government Center on South Stagecoach Road in San Marcos.

One of the major fundraisers for the Brown Santa program, the lockup goes like this: Members of the community (elected officials, peace officers and others) are “arrested” and taken before a magistrate who sets their “bond” after which they are placed in a mock jail.

Money paid for those “bonds” funds the program.

Those “arrested” get a free fajita meal after their release. Everyone else pays $10 a platter for chicken or beef fajitas and all the fixings, plus rice, beans and a drink.

To arrange to have a coworker “arrested,” call Lt. Dennis Gutierrez at 512-393-7788. Those wishing to volunteer to have themselves arrested should call the same number.
