There don't appear to be any new faces coming to the Kyle City Council as a result of Tuesday’s election. With 12.1 percent of the Election Day plus early voting compiled, District 3 incumbent Robert Rizo was ahead by a vote of 59.85 percent (1,145 votes) over challenger Amanda Stark’s 40.15 percent (768 votes). Dex Ellison, District 1 incumbent’ was on his way to a new term by 56.03 percentage points (1,068 votes) over challenger Yvonne Flores-Cale’s 43.97 percent (838 votes).
In Buda, Terry Cummings was in the lead with 63.48 percent of the vote (226 votes) compared to Jeffrey Morales’ 36.52 percent (130 votes) in the race for Buda City Council Single Member District C.
“it was a very difficult campaign for me. I appreciate my supporters that believed in me,” Ellison said. “I’m still processing. I’m wearing my heart on my sleeve. I just wish more people would get out to vote.”
Rizo did not return messages seeking a comment.
A banker, Ellison was a member of Kyle’s Planning and Zoning Commission when he was elected in November 2017 to District 1, which was formerly represented by Travis Mitchell, who won the mayor’s seat the same night. Ellison currently serves as mayor pro tem.
Rizo, a property management supervisor, was elected in May of this year to fill the unexpired term of former council member Shane Arabie. Rizo had first sought a council seat in 2017 but was disqualified from the race when it was discovered his home was just outside the city limits.
In Wimberley, former Hays County Commissioner Will Conley was ahead by 64.72 percent (2,506 votes) over Suzanne White’s 35.28 percent (1,366 votes).
